Jesse kneels down to watch the bug, and smiles as it runs back and forth over his hand. When Skinny Pete shows up, he steps on it, very deliberately. Jesse both notices small details, and is sensitive to a degree that doesn't really benefit him in his line of work. He cares about things even other people wouldn't, and would think it's ridiculous to care about.

SKinny Pete suggests Jesse doesn't want to go deal with the thieves, and Jesse immediately snaps back. he doesn't want to do this, but he wants to come off as weak even less, especially with what he's been going through.

Jesse ahs to psych himself up by smoking meth (?) and then rehearsing what he wants to say until he sounds appropriately threatening. The image he tries to present, of the tough, streethardened criminal, is a facade. It's not something that comes naturally.

Jesse is absolutely horrified to see a kid in Spooge's house. He then tries to bond with the kid. Jesse is sensitive and compassionate, even though his line of work wouldn't suggest it.

Skyler calls Gretchen, and in the course of their conversation, it's nearly revealed that they aren't paying for Walt's treatment. Gretchen is too nice to say otherwise, but this is another one of Walt's lies that falls apart if chunks of his life every interact.

Walt talks about all the different forms of carbon in his class. Everything is connected, whih is a fact Walt otherwise ignores, given it didnt occur to him his wife might talk to his best friend.

Jesse feeds the little red haired kid off screen. I love him so much

Jesse is probably able to respond to Spooge and his girlfriend with such violence because he's mad about how the kid was being treated.

Again, Walt narrowly avoids his secret being revealed by the fact Gretchen is too polite.

Jesse has put the kid to bed before he comes after Spooge and his girlfriend, probably so the kid doesn't have to watch it. WHen the kid does show up, Jesse reassures him that they're "playing a game". He's really concerned about this kid's well being, as hopeless as it is.

Walt refuses to admit that his lying and involving Gretchen in it is a bad thing. He uses the fact he's apologized as a band-aid, without acknowledging that she deserves an explanation and a change in behaviour for that. He blames her founding Grey Matter with Elliot for his current state, even though that happened years ago.

Spooge's girlfriend bludgeons Jesse right in front of her son. She doesn't care about her son;s emotional wellbeing like Jesse does. When he regains consciousness, she threatens to shoot him for calling her a bad mother, despite the fact, she is. Both she and Walt get angry when confronted with the truth about themselves, and blame others for revealing that truth rather than themselves.

Gretchen didn't reveal Walt's lies, shie just framed it like she was cutting him off. She's not willing to harm Walt's family by revealing he was lying to them. She'd rather they think poorly of her, in contrast to Walt, who is trying to preserve his image at all costs.

After Spooge's horrible death, Jesee cleans his fingerprints off, but then calls the cops and puts the kid where they'll find him. Even with the money he got from the ATM, he won;t just cut and run until he;s fixed something. This is a really important episode for Jesse characterization, going in-depth with his compassion.
