Breaking Bad Season 3 Episode 5: Mas
Jun. 6th, 2019 04:14 pmThis episode opens with a flashback to Jesse using his money from his first deal with Walt to go to a strip club with Combo and Pete. He only realizing after spending most of it that he needs to buy the RV. Turns out, the RV came from Combo.
After the credits, we seem that Skyler and Ted are continuing their affair. Skyler is enjoying the luxuries Ted has access to
Walt and Jesse are arguing over the money that was taken from Jesse as Walt's share, continuing Gus' plan to force them into working together.
Gonzalez has chosen to go to El Paso, leaving Hank's investigation behind. This drives Hank to look harder and harder for the RV, desperate to prove that he can do good work where he is. He refuses to talk about it with Marie, lashing out when she brings up that he might be traumatized by what happened in Mexico.
Walt figures out Gus' plan, and confronts him, but Gus kkeeps insisting that Jesse is good enough, which makes Walt even angrier. Walt also claims he doesn't have any sort of selfishness or sense of ownership over his formula, which is blatantly untrue, as seen earlier.
Marie is aware there's something wrong with Hank, but she can't deal with it or figure it out. Marie is dealing with a different version of what Skyler and Walt have gone through, and she points out that facing death changes a person.
Gus brings Walt to his new lab, which is massive and industrialized. Here, we see just how small time Walt always was, since he could never have reached this stage without Gus' help. the drug trade can reach an incredible scale, that Gus has reached and Walt hasn't
Gus tells Walt that desicions made for the sake of family can't be bad decisions, and tells Walt that "a man protects his family". Here, we see that Gus validates Walt's worldview, by externalizing it. If Gus agrees with Walt's distorted construction of what family and masculinity mean, he can't be fully wrong. Obviously, the fact that these statements are being used to tempt Walt back into cooking means that we're supposed to realize that makes them wrong.
Walt is trying to get along with Skyler, and is bonding with Holly, which unfortunately might make his desire to go back to cooking greater.
SKyler is acknowledging her motivations with regards to Ted, but she says it makes her feel better than anything with walt. Skyler's marriage counselor tells her Walt doing it for the family is a load of horseshit, and tells her to just drop the relationship, especially if she's only holding on so she can feel better that Walt.
Walt right now is interested in hurting Jesse, since Gus is giving Jesse prominence. That's why he's fine with giving the money back, because he knows that he can hurt Jesse more by going after Jesse's pride.
