Breaking Bad Season 3 Episode 6: Sunset
Jun. 26th, 2019 03:13 pmUgh, I took too long a break on these. In my defense, Season 3 feels more like a bridge between other seasons than anything, so I'm not saying as much
The episode opens with a police officer making a welfare check. The whole scene is in the same sepia filter a lot of the Mexico scenes get.
The camera iside the house shows the shrine with the Heisenberg picture we saw in the twins' intro. The cop hasn't seen it, and wouldn't know what it was even if he had, so we have a sense of danger he doesn't
As he gets closer and closer to the body of the woman he was doing the check on, the flies buzzing gets louder and louder, until it drowns everything else out, establishing the suffocating horror.
One of the twins calmly eats a peach withthe other kills the cop with an axe. This is another scene establishing how dangerous the twins are, and how horrifyingly casual they are about it.
"Name one thing in this world that is not negotiable." Walt is refusing to acknowledge that Skyler has emotions and that he can;t just approach his divorce like a business transaction.
Jesse is still trying to make it big without Walt. It feels weird to say this, but I'm so proud of him.
He's also trying to be responsible: getting the RV fixed up wo they won't get stopped for traffic violations, buying supplies in a de-centralized manner. Jesse is capable of being sensible and smart when given a reason to apply himself.
Whenever Walt makes a sandwich now, he cuts off the crusts like it's for Krazy-8. I bet he doesn;t even realize that trauma.
Walt is genuinely trying to reconnect with Walt Jr. He makes him lunch, drives himto school, and tries to reassure him about the divorce. He's still capable of trying
After that, Walt goes back to the laundromat lab. This is when he meets Gale.
Gale is basically the opposite of Jesse. He has a degree, he's soft-spoken, he's respectful to Walter. Walt and Gale's similarities are probably part of Walt returning to cooking, because now he has someone he can connect with there, and not in any other part of his life.
Gale went to cooking meth due to libertarian beliefs, and because he thinks "people will get meth anyways, at least I can make good meth".
The fact that Walt Whitman was believed to have been either gay or bisexual says interesting things about Gale quoting one of his poems to Walt right off the bat.
Hank has been neglecting Marie in favour of chasing Jesse, just like Walt neglected Skyler in favour of drug making.
Hank calls Walt about the alleged weed dealing to ask about the RV, without suspecting Walt at all.
Walt wanting the RV destroyed is sensible, but it's also a way for him to re-exert control, and take control away from Jesse. However, they're forced to hide together when Hank shows up.
The reason the junkyard guy is able to keep Hank waway from the RV is by saying laws related to residences apply, not vehicles.
"This is my own private domicile and I will not be harassed! Bitch!" It happened!
The call Hsank got about Marie's accident that turned out to be fake was caused by the callWalt made, which means Walt is fine using Hank's family to manipulate him. He can't really care about family, since he only cares about his own, not other people's
The RV being demolished has sad music playing over it, to indicate the end of an era.
Gus reveals to the twins that Hank is the one who killed Tuco, and gives thempermission to go after him.
